stylist susie clegg

UK stylist Susie Clegg jokes that her job is about making things look pretty and shopping. But her work has its basis in design. Her interest in the field was sparked after studying furniture and interior design. However, styling is her passion, and it has led to work with a range of clients, including Dulux, Habitat, MTV and Liberty, as well as publications such as Elle Decoration UK and Living Etc.

Which five words best describe you? Small person with big ideas.

How did you get your career start and what path have you taken since? I credit an old friend to getting me into styling who came home one day from work and said, "I met a girl today, her job was a stylist. She makes things look pretty and shops a lot. I think you would be good at that!" Since that introduction into styling, I have had a great time finding my way through the world of style. After lots of hard work, very long hours and a lot of shopping I’m still here and looking forward to what is going to happen next.

What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt along the way? Don’t panic!

What’s your proudest career achievement? One of them would be styling an event at Buckingham Palace recently. It was amazing to be there; everyone was lovely, the event was a success so it was a great day topped off with royal approval.

What’s been your best decision? To get a credit card that gives me air miles, I should have done it years ago.

Who inspires you? People that have those annoyingly simple and clever ideas that you think why has no one ever thought of that before, I’m still thinking.

What are you passionate about? My work. It is a lifestyle choice the job I do so it becomes part of your every day to not be passionate about it would mean you would have no motivation.

Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? Terry Wogan, (I am not sure if you have heard of him over in Australia), he used to have a chat show over here in the eighties and I would imagine being a guest to talk about my new book release. I can still dream.

What dream do you still want to fulfil? I would like to swim with dolphins.

What are you reading? The Farrow and Ball paint chart.
